Slip Testing in Hotels

Munro have extensive experience in assessing the slip risk of hotel floors.   We have carried out slip testing in estates ranging from London’s most expensive luxury establishments to the cheapest business motels.  Hotels tend to provide a unique range of challenging conditions for those managing slip risk.

Where should hotels be slip testing?

Hotel bathrooms

The need for easy to clean and attractive flooring in the bathroom usually means that it is hard and shiny, and therefore quite poor in terms of slip resistance.  Consideration is often given to anti-slip tubs and trays, but the bathroom floor itself is worthy of attention too.

Hotel swimming pools

The most challenging environment for maintaining a slip resistant floor, the swimming pool will be under attack daily from mineral, body fat and cleaning chemical deposits, and that is assuming that the correct surface was laid initially.  slip risk assessment data is crucial here if any effective management of slip risk is to take place.

Hotel kitchens

The fast-paced nature of a commercial kitchen brings together high frictional demands with several factors which reduce surface friction, such as grease deposits.  It will be crucial that a hotel kitchen floor presents safe grip levels in contaminated conditions, and a slip test is necessary to determine this.

Hotel lobbies

The first impression of the hotel, and the area experienced by all guests, the lobby will usually feature an attractive high gloss floor finish.  High gloss finishes will typically be slippery when wet, so management of the nearby external entrance, drinks spillages and cleaning regimes will be crucial to slip risk management.

Hotel car parks

Often lower on the list of priorities and investment, the car park and associated entrance to a hotel can introduce slip hazards both externally on the road surface and internally at any associated entrance.   Those using the entrance from the car park are more likely to be carrying baggage so have a limited view of the floor surface and/or an increased frictional demand.

Munro’s extensive experience in conducting floor slip testing services to exacting standards makes us an excellent ally in your efforts to reduce slip accidents in a hospitality setting.  Our risk assessment slip tests are conducted to the same standard as those we produce for the court in slip and fall legal claims, we don’t benefit from any anti-slip products or solutions, and all works are conducted in accordance with the Health and Safety Executive’s preferred method the BS 7976-2 Pendulum to UKSRG Guidelines.
